
Tonia Szkurhan trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England where she received her degree in Acting Musical Theatre.
Her UK stage credits include the rock opera Chains!, with Guest House Opera, where she performed the role of Brown Eyes and in the ensemble musical, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change at the Bridewell Theatre.
Additionally, she played the Dame in the children’s pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk and performed in the site-specific smash hit, You Me Bum Bum Train.
Tonia’s Canadian stage credits include playing the Rocking Horse in The Velveteen Rabbit and singing in the Sondheim in September concert series. She was part of the workshop for R. Murray Schafer’s The Children’s Crusade with Soundstreams Canada.
Tonia worked with Joyce Dewitt and Cindy Williams in the Vagina Monologues at Stage West in Mississauga, where she performed the monologue, “I was Twelve, My Mother Slapped Me”. She was an ensemble member with Opera Hamilton for their productions of Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci.
She has toured across the UK and Canada with the play, The Power of One and has performed in a new children’s musical entitled, Rumpus Reading Room. Her film experience includes the movie musical, Punching Above Your Weight, and the dance film, SLIP produced by Plural Productions for Bravo!
As a solo singer, Tonia has performed in many high-profile cabarets and concerts in London, Rome and Toronto.
She sings a large repertoire of jazz, pop, rock, evergreens and musical theatre songs that entertain people of all ages.
In Rome, she was honoured to sing for the United Nations Women’s Guild for their International Women’s Day Celebration, at the Canadian Embassy for their official Canada Day Celebrations and for various events at the American Embassy.
Tonia was a finalist in the highly respected and long running Italian singing contest, Il Cantagiro with Mondecarlo Productions. Her Il Cantagiro story continued as she was invited back as a guest singer and judge at the regional finals in Tuscany and as a guest singer at the international finals in Fiuggi.
Additionally, Tonia competed at the prestigious 20th International Gaetano Zinetti Festival, where she received a certificate of honour (scoring 91%) for her performance.
She also had the opportunity to be a National Anthem soloist for the WCT Masters of Curling Grand Slam for CBC Sports/Curl TV, the Toronto Blue Jays (Major League Baseball) at the Rogers Centre, as well as for the Toronto Rock (National Lacrosse League) at the Air Canada Centre.
Tonia was delighted to have recorded original songs for UK composer and lyricist, Christopher Wood. She has worked as a vocal and diction coach in studio with various Italian singers and bands.

She has studied under the direction of Maestro Rolando Nicolosi in Rome, Italy; Heather Weir at The Music Studios in London, England and with Thomas Schilling of VocalWay Studios in Toronto, Canada.
